Legal Highs

With the strive for new thrills comes a flood of legal highs, NRG-1, 2, and 3, Naphyrone and MDAI to name a few. The cheapness and availability of such drugs makes them an easy alternative to ecstasy and cocaine, not to mention that the police can do nothing about it. when used sensibly there are no short term effects to health and no-one has died from taking them on there own, the risk to health comes when people mix stimulants such as the legal highs mentioned with depressants such as alcohol or ketamine. The trouble is such stimulants have to be sold as bath salts or plant foods despite them being useless as either, so they do not come with warnings or directions.

Politicians banning these legal highs only pushes it underground jeopardising the purity of the drug as with cocaine and ecstasy, pushing up the price and forcing the producers to to create newer drugs. I do believe cases of 14 year olds taking MCAT at school is wrong but should we really be punished for the mentality of others? surely the abuse of legal highs by minors shows the degenerating state of the population, so it is not the drug that is to blame it is the people abusing it. I do believe there should be an age limit put on such drugs but that adults should be trusted to make their own decisions about their own life. The ban on MCAT is not working all it has done is created new legal highs worse than their predecessor.

There are many people i know who take all sorts of drugs, they all still take Methadrone but a few have moved on to NRG-1 as a cheaper alternative, one person suffered a sudden rise in temperature, convulsions and preceded to try and claw his own face off. Mcat was quite safe banning it pushes people into trying more dangerous substances.

Education and making people frown at drug users is the key rather than pushing it under the carpet.

  1. Legal highs are termed as bad when people mix the stimulants with alcohol or ketamine, as this could lead to health hazards. Educating people about the dangers of intake of drugs is a better idea.
