There are many reasons why people may take up the pass time of smoking, at a young age it is normally linked
to the desire to 'fit in' and look 'older.' Smoking seems to be becoming much less socially acceptable, in media the people who are now depicted smoking are stereotypically lower class failures contrary to the air of success surrounding those depicted smoking in the 1950's.

I personally believe the right to smoke is the personal choice of an individual. The persecution of a sector of society is unfair just because of their preference of leisure activity, I am not a smoker but I believe every one to their own. I do not however agree with there unhealthy habit affecting others, by this I mean smoking around children or places where non smokers have to be.

I disagree with the prejudice held against smokers by the NHS as they do contribute to taxes more than non smokers. Smoking is a personal choice it must be remembered that most smokers do not want to smoke so adequate help should be offered to them without them feeling like lepers. The segregation and persecution of smokers is wrong, instead of not allowing them to smoke in pubs and bars there should be smoking and non smoking pubs and bars with adequate extractor fans and therefore we would all have the freedom and choice to choose.
